Step One: Scope and Sequence
Step Two: Yearly Course of Study
Step Three: Make a Homeschool Plan Book
Step Four: Make a Master Plan Book
Step Five: Make a Portfolio
Step Six: Make Lesson Plans
Under South Carolina homeschool law, you must teach for at least one hundred eighty days, the curriculum must include Math, Science, Social Studies, Composition and Literature, and you must keep a plan book, a portfolio of samples of the student’s academic work, and a semi-annual progress report including attendance records and individualized documentation of the student’s academic progress in each of the basic instructional areas.
We already covered the plan book with attendance, lesson plans, and grades.
Now we have an easier step…the portfolio. During the year I transfer significant items to the grade portfolio.
Some of the things that I include in my grade portfolio are:
Literature: reading lists
Composition: written reports/essays
Math : tests
Science: tests, photographs of science experiments
Social Studies: tests, photographs of field trips, projects
Fine Arts: art projects
Extracurricular: certificates and awards, field trip log including family travel, cultural events log
Physical Education: sports log, pictures of sporting events, awards
Once again, I am using Martha Stewart products! This time, I am using an accordion file.
I labeled the front with Cooper’s name and grade, and then labeled the slots with the subjects we will be covering.
