I have really been missing my junking.
Saturday morning I was so excited! It was a beautiful day…we drove up to my usual Saturday morning flea market, and it was packed! The whole place was full of vendors, inside and outside.
I couldn’t find something to buy to save my life.
It was ridiculous. It seemed like every single table was full of new stuff or tools. The few tables that had good stuff on them apparently thought they were in a high dollar antiques store, not at a $10 a day flea market.
I am going to give everyone a few bits of flea market advice.
Flea Market Rule #1: NEVER look excited about something. I always sigh, look at other things, and make sure I notice any flaws on the item. Don’t EVER let them know you love it. If you do, your price goes up, and all chances of bargaining are gone.
Flea Market Rule #2: If the dealer starts to tell you the history of the piece, how old it is, who owned it…WALK AWAY! They are not prepared to give you a flea market price. They need to sell it in an antiques store or on eBay.
Flea Market Rule #3: If the dealer starts to say, “on eBay this item sells for…” See Flea Market Rule #2.
Flea Market Rule #4: Do not dress well. I leave my expensive purse in the car. I do not wear nice clothes, nice shoes, or nice jewelry. If you walk up looking like you have money to burn, your price just doubled.
I finally bought something on the very last row, when I decided to make a second run through to see if I missed something. I got a cute little sewing rocker, sometimes known as a nursing rocker. It is made without arms, so that you can have your hands freer to grab supplies by your side if you are sewing. It has some really cute carving on the head rest. I am going to try out the new milk paint I ordered from Miss Mustard Seed on it!
Nail kegs are something that my husband and I always seem to buy whenever we see them. They are great for storage!
I do love my wire milk crate. I was looking for something to bundle with the rocker, so I got the milk crate, nail keg and the rocker for $20.
The one thing I am totally excited about is my Big Red soda crate. I am originally from Texas, and Big Red was always my favorite soda growing up. I haven’t decided what I am going to store in it yet, but it is definitely a keeper!
I stopped by a brand new Goodwill on the way home. The place was packed, it was like Black Friday in there! All I found was a Fire King deviled egg plate and a top for a tiny Pyrex casserole. When I find those casseroles they never come with a top, so when I find extras I snap them up!
