I am diabetic, and I know that I feel much better when I watch my carb intake. I know fruit is healthy, but for me, it means high blood sugar. If I eat pizza, I feel like I am hungover the next day.
I have been looking in to ketogenic diets, and in doing so, stumbled across “Bulletproof Coffee,” which is part of the Bulletproof Diet.
What is The Bulletproof Diet?
It is a program that incorporates anti-inflammatory eating and high intensity interval training may help to shed some pounds. CEO and founder David Asprey says his method is designed to make you look, feel and perform at your very best. Asprey advocates for eating lots of healthy fats like avocado, coconut oil, and MCT oil – while restricting carbs and only eating high quality grass-fed meats. He believes that most people do best without sugar, gluten, and dairy.

What the heck is Bulletproof Coffee?
According to David Asprey, he came up with this after a trip to Tibet, where he drank yak butter in his tea! His ingredients are:
- At least 1-2tbs Kerrygold unsalted grass-fed butter.
- 1-2tbs of Brain Octane or XCT oil (these are 18x and 6x stronger than coconut oil, with no flavor.)
- 1-2 cups (~250-500ml) of hot coffee brewed with low-toxin beans (like Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee) using a metal filter (like french press or gold filter drip).
I didn’t make mine like that.
- 1 T. Kerrygold butter
- 1 T. Coconut oil (I put it in the cup before I brew it)
- Coffee (I used a Coconut Mocha K-Cup)
- Liquid Stevia
It looks a lot nicer if you blend it up, like with an immersion blender. It gets a nice froth on top like a latte!
Why would you drink Bulletproof Coffee??
Among Bulletproof coffee’s listed benefits: It triggers weight loss by way of ketosis, a metabolic state triggered by a lack of carbs that kicks fat-burning into overdrive; it kills pesky cravings; it boosts cognitive function. keeps you energized for hours, eliminates any crashes, and helps you gain muscle.
I decided to give it a try. I am not buying the coffee and MCT oil off of his website. I have been trying it for the last five mornings, and I will say, it has surprised me!
I go to a Spartan X Boot Camp. Normally when I do Boot Camp, or work out with my personal trainer, my blood sugar drops about halfway through, and I have to drink a juice box. Yes, just like I am in preschool. But it helps me get through the workout without passing out.
This morning was my first time working out after just having Bulletproof Coffee for breakfast, and not only did I not have to drink a juice box, I wasn’t hungry until lunch!
Whoop! I will let you know how it goes. Oh, and I have lost 2 pounds in the same five days!
