I started out with tomatoes and peppers in my basic 6 x 6 plot. I have gone a little crazy. Even with only four tomato plants, we have tons, and I can all summer long. This is what I have:
- 4 tomato
- 6 bell pepper
- 3 jalapeno
- 3 banana pepper
- 2 yellow squash
- 2 zucchini
- 12 cucumber
- 6 strawberry
- 6 pole bean
You can see my lovely, totally professional looking plan for this year below.
We laid out pavers in the tomato and pepper section so that I can walk through it to weed and harvest my “crops” more easily. My husband built me some great trellises for my cucumbers, and they help keep all of the wild squash and zucchini plants under control! This year I put marigolds and nasturtiums in pots throughout the garden to help with pests.
I went a little nuts with the herb garden this year. Yes, it is rather heavy on mint. I have to feed my mojito habit.
My husband is laughing at me for planting pole beans for the first time this year. He said that I will never grow enough beans to ever have enough for a meal. It’s on. I am going to prove him wrong if it kills me! I may or may not have planted the beans because I really wanted to build a teepee. Yes, the bamboo poles are held together with thigh high stockings. I never wear stockings anymore, so I was cleaning out drawers while building a garden structure. I feel so green!
Do you have a garden this year?
